Mao Zedong’s Head statue is located in Orange Isle, Changsha, the capital of Hunan province, China. The statue was unveiled on December 2009, (Mao’s 116th Birthday). The statue is 32 meter tall. it took 2 years to build it. The cost was about 35 million US Dollars (300 million RMB), 8,000 giant granite bricks were mined from Fujian and broght to Changsha. The statue’s location was chosen due to a poem Mao Zedong wrote in 1925, as a young man. The poem “Changsha” is one of his most well-known poems.
