A nine-month-old baby accused of murder in Pakistan has had the charges against him dropped. Musa Khan, a baby from Lahore, was charged with the attempted murder of a police officer. The judge has now thrown out the case, and said that it should never have come to court.
"Police told the court that the nomination of Musa in the case of attacking police and gas company officials was a human error and Musa is not required," said Irfan Sadiq, the defence lawyer. Police chiefs earlier said they had ordered action against an investigating officer.
The baby appeared in the Lahore courthouse last week, sitting on his grandfather's lap and drinking from a bottle of milk. Pictures of the child crying as he was fingerprinted at an earlier hearing were ridiculed and condemned around the world, and provincial officials subsequently called for an inquiry.
But baby Musa's family - grandfather Muhammad Yasin and his three sons - will still be tried for an alleged clash between his adult relatives and police and gas company workers trying to collect overdue bills.
Police had registered charges against the entire family.
